CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS -
THE ANIMALS OF THE OLYMPIC PENISULA NEED YOU!!!
WELCOME!
Volunteers are very important to the Olympic Peninsula
Humane Society staff. As a private, non-profit organization,
we rely on the assistance of caring and hard-working
volunteers in all of our programs.
It is in thanks to our incredible volunteer work-force
that we were able to provide comfort and care to more
than 2,275 animals in 2007 through our broad range
of programs and services including: sheltering, adoption,
low-cost spay and neuter, Humane Law Enforcement,
lost and found, and humane education.
As the only open-access shelters in Clallam County
no call for help goes unanswered, and no animal is
ever turned away!
The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society offers a very
wide range of volunteer opportunities, and new programs
are being added all of the time.
Volunteers are essential to our day-to-day operations.
If you don't see an opportunity listed that is of
interest to you, please suggest it. Our facility is
located just west of Port Angeles.
Thank you to all of our wonderful
volunteer community for all your hard work.

|
At the orientation we provide an overview of our services,
policies, and introduction to our volunteer program
and a tour of the shelter.
Additionally volunteers interview one-on-one with
our volunteer coordinator or shelter manager to discuss
personal goals and to determine the most suitable
volunteer assignment.
Depending on the job you perform you may need to take
additional classes to learn about safety procedures,
pet adoptions, animal behavior, and other important
information about the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society's
many programs, volunteers may also be required to
participate in a training class.
3) How You Can
Help
Volunteers perform a wide variety of jobs throughout
the shelter. Here are just a few of them:
" Animal Care Specialist
Exercise, socialize and feed animals, as well as clean
kennels. Brush and bathe pets available for adoption.
This really enhances any pet's chance at being adopted!
Supervision is provided.
" Cleaning Dog & Cat Kennels
Daily 365 days a year starting at 7 am for you active
early birds! A great workout too!
" Maintenance and Ground Work
Gardening, yard work or special projects at the shelter
repairing the old or installing/building the new -
we are always growing! Handy people welcome!
" Offsite Adoptions
Assist staff at various sites throughout the community,
including feeding and caring for pets available for
adoption. Also, provide information about the Olympic
Peninsula Humane Society and responsible pet care
to the public.
" Foster Parent
Take care of underage puppies & kittens until
they are mature enough to be made available for adoption.
Give them lots of love, training and spoil them rotten!
They are too cute and lovable! We are always in need
of foster homes. Pets in foster homes must be spayed/neutered
and current on all vaccinations.
" Fundraising and Special Events
This is one of the most valuable way you can invest
your time at the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society.
Without fundraising, our organization would be unable
to continue our valuable services to the community.
Volunteers assist at special events to help the shelter
to raise money for the animals.
We especially need fund-raising volunteers with experience
in grant writing, capital campaigns, and charitable
trusts/estates. Got a special fund-raising skill that
we don't know about? We can use you!! Even if you
have never been a fund-raising volunteer before, but
are willing to help, we can use you.
Why Volunteer?
" Develop new skills while exploring the field
of animal care
" Meet new people with similar interests
" Acquire work experience for future endeavors
" Receive support and guidance from professional
staff
Most importantly, volunteering will make life better
for pets in our care and better for the people and
animals in our community. Bottom line is, it's about
the animals and what we can do to improve their lives.
*Note: Next Volunteer Meeting is Wednesday, December
3, 2008 from 6:15 to 8:15 in the Port Angeles Library.
If you are interested in joining our wonderful volunteer
community please contact our volunteer coordinator
at Christine@cchumane.com for an orientation (required
